Getting ready for print!

Exciting times!

I have been hard at work on revisions for the Mr. Moofs book. When in print it will feature new and improved drawings and much additional content not seen in the origional story. It has all been a lot of fun, though much work. I'd often wondered how authors had the patience to go back over and over their work but now I can see that it is beneficial and sometimes results in a better finish and better ideas. I've recieved lots of support throughout this project - much appr...

The End

Posted by Richard Billings on October 3, 2012 at 12:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Last page of Mr. Moofs today. I'm pleased that I accomplished this but quite sad that it is over. I plan to re-do a few pages. After that get it into proper form and start shopping myself around. In the mean time I'll try to create a Reddogart page on Facebook and do a Mr. Moofs contest in which someone will win a personalized Mr. Moofs painting. Finished, yet lots to do. If you are reading this, thanks so much for following Mr. Moofs and the blog. Please keep looking. There is much more to c...

August!

Just finished posting page 21 - Scary Dr. Monroe. It has been a long and enlightening journey with Mr. Moofs. Since March 24 I've been drawing, painting and posting one page each week. One of my dreams of writing and illustrating a book is becoming a reality. It has been a struggle at times but I am so fortunate that my "gift" has been there when crunched for time or after a slow period has bogged me down. A few more pages to go and a surprise at the end for everyone. if you are reading this,...

Page 15 - A change in the air?

Posted by Richard Billings on June 29, 2012 at 10:15 PM Comments comments (0)

June 30 and page 15. The story and the art are going well and feedback has been great. I'm still struggling with the watercolor technique that I'm looking for and the Rapiographs are a challenge with each page. This is the turning point in the story. I am curious to see the reaction. It is tough to determine who is following the story - not everyone "likes" or comments but I have been encouraged by reaching a number of people that I do not know. I can see the difference from the early pa...

The big experiment

Posted by Richard Billings on May 27, 2012 at 5:05 PM Comments comments (0)

After struggling with page 11 and never really getting what I wanted I wound up with two choices. I decided to post both on Facebook and let those who are following the story pick the page. I recieved a lot of great feedback and the page that was my personal favorite was chosen. Good thing - it would have been tough to post a page that I didn't like. Throughout this process I got a bit of an idea and now I'm thinking about turning the story in a different direction.

Going well...

Mr. Moofs is moving along very well. With yesterday's post I offered a "bonus" page if it recieved 20 "likes" on Saturday. The followers came through and as promised I posted page 7 this morning.  Page 7 already!  I'm learning more with each new illustration and am very surprised to find occurances and items from my childhood creeping into the story (see the washing machine page). As I am working on this I continue to study the work of Gris Grimly and Shaun Tan. I hope to be able to...

One month in...

Tomorrow marks one month into the Mr. Moofs experiment. I am pleased that he is gathering a small following and I am slowly picking up the watercolor techniques that I was looking for. It is a long road but I have been enjoying the process. Hopefully as I continue I will progress further - still a long way from where I want to be. Thanks to all who are following Mr. Moofs saga.  RB

Mr. Moofs

Through an odd interaction I got an idea for a story about a toy moose and an evil sister. The idea quickly ran away with itself. The drawings kept coming to me and developed into something that I knew was a little special. I decided to use it to develop my watercolor and composition skills as well as self imposed deadlines. I will post one page per week on Facebook which will hopefully lead more people to the website. I hope that you all enjoy it and please, share with your friends.

AS220 Show

Very nice to see everyone at the AS220 show opening on the 5th. Thanks to all that could attend. Tough to pull together a show in a limited time like that but it resulted in a piece that I like very much - "Grandma's Chair II". The painting "Grandma's Chair I" was not accepted for the Providence Art Club Painting show this year but I am still pleased that I was able to finish it in time to submit - and it got me painting again. The new concentration that I have tried to put into my work...

Off we go...

After more than a bit of frustration and some persistance RedDogArt is up and running. If you know me at all you are aware that I am not a "computer guy". Nevertheless, here we are. I've tried to make the site as varied as possible in order to give a overall representation of my work. In several areas I have mentioned that I may be contacted via e-mail for further information or additional photos of available art.
